The Headquarters Company was organized by Col. Ernst Von Frankenberg in May 1977 for those SUVCW members who were not members of established SVR units. These included members of independent reenactment groups, members of Camp guard units and those who wished to support the Sons of Veterans Reserve through their membership and those retired from living history roles.

Members of the Headquarters Company assist in conducting Memorial Day ceremonies, presenting SUVCW Eagle Scout Awards, displays and presentations to schools and community groups, manning information booths at Civil War events and marching as a color guard in parades and commemorative ceremonies. They actively support the SUVCW missions of Patriotic Education, Honoring Union Veterans, and Preserving and Perpetuating the Grand Army of the Republic.
